THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE NOT DIVING

1. Lie on the beach
2. Take time for romance.
3. Relax.
4. Read a book
5. Watch a DVD movie from the large selection at Aqua House. Popcorn is provided to add to your cinematic enjoyment.
6. Visit the Tourist Board. They have activities that can be arranged for you. At present golf, deep-sea fishing, and horseback riding are available. Furthermore, they have numerous pamphlets and brochures for your perusal.
7. Play golf. The nine-hole, 54-par course is located on the government house grounds.
8. Horseback riding along the beach.
9. Bird watchers can find their own brand of heaven anywhere around North Creek. You will notice many bird species wherever you are on Grand Turk. The salina in front of Aqua House always has a variety of birds in it.
10. Take a walking or biking tour. Admire the beautiful, old Bermudian-style buildings on Queen/Front Street. You must include a visit to the Turks & Caicos Museum and its gift shop. This small island has a rich history, and artifacts are finally being preserved and displayed. Take a look at the arboretum next to the museum to see a display of local plants.
11. If walking and biking seem to be too strenuous, try renting a scooter for a fun and easy buzz around the island.
12. Beach combing is a natural activity while you are here. You can stay close to home and roam up and down the beach behind Aqua House. Sea Glass is abundant. Take a collection bag with you since you will always find more than you expect. You may keep what you find on the beach. Really good beach combing is found at opposite ends of the island. Take a BIG collection bag. There are shells, sea fans, driftwood, sand dollars, sea urchins, bits of sponge, etc. Surprisingly, there are remnants of the War of 1812 in the form of British flint rock and knapped flint stones that still wash up on the beach. We have examples of each in Aqua House so you will recognize them on your beach walks.
13. Depending upon the time of the year and the state of the sea, there are trips to Salt Cay, South Caicos, and the Endymion wreck including Big Sand Cay. You can go whale watching from January through March. Paddling a sea kayak up and down the shoreline is a good alternative to a nap! All dive operators offer afternoon BBQ visits (one or more per week) to Gibbs Cay where you can snorkel with and feed the stingrays. Even if you have a dive package with one dive operator, you may take a supplemental trip with another. So inquire at all the dive shops to see how they can enhance your stay.
14. Rent a kayak and paddle along the shore.
15. Grand Turk now has a Cruise Ship Center. When ships are in, you may visit the Center as well. If you wish to, you may partake in some of the activities offered to ship passengers. There is a very large swimming pool next to Jimmy Buffet's Restaurant along with many shops. Along the beach to the north of the Center are more restaurants, a beach bar, shops, and dive/snorkel operations.
